Air is a homogeneous mixture of various gases. It can be separated into its components by fractional distillation.
Procedure:
- First, the air is compressed and cooled by applying pressure and decreasing temperature. The air will convert to liquid air
- Then, the liquid air is allowed to warm up in the fractional distillation column.
- The gases will be collected at different heights.
